That caller reminded me of a scene from Terminator 2 when John Conner tells Terminator Arnold, "You can't just go around shooting people. Arnold asks why and the kids says, because you just can't."

SOL,
My apologies for my dereliction in apprising you of profound missives that I
come across. Today's Wall Street Journal has a top-of-the-heap tome by
Daniel Henninger. I heard at least some of your accolade-ing George Will's
oped column in today's TDT on the same general subject. Both tomes confirm
Tocqueville's admonition that democracy contains the seeds of its own
destruction.

Hey Lynn,
I missed part of the info regarding a caller you had from Belton on the Bell county Tea Party.
Can you please replay that call or request they call in again ? I didn't catch the name, number or website associated with this - particular - event. I want to be sure that their reasons for the Tea are the same as mine.
Thank You,
Mary Keip

Hey USL,

While Alexis de Tocqueville wrote many brilliant things; you have focused on a most banal and unexceptional attribution to him to freqently end your posts. Think about it U (can I call you "U"?), ALL societies contain the seeds of their own destruction, not just Democracies. The Roman Empire, the Mongol Empire, the Aztecs, the Soviet Union, Porfirio Diaz, the Crusades, the French Monarchy, the confederacy, etc, etc, etc; all, ALL contained the "seeds of its own destruction" and the the list goes on and on. Why don't you wisely tell people that it gets cold in Minnesota and be just as profoundly unprofound.
Have you actually read de Tocqueville or do you just like to refer to him? After all he was one of those "testicularly challenged" Frenchmen you are wont to vilify. It's OK, I'm sure you believe, like me, that consistency is just a crutch for those who lack imagination. Right?
Sincerely,
Thane

First, I agree with you about using laptops and online textbooks, but what about the kindle?

Yes, you made one, short, off-handed mention of it, but stop. It isn't used for browsing the Internet, it isn't color, it's grayscale, like the pages of a book. The school districts could absolutely take every textbook in the school, load it on a kindle, and have the kids bring them around, and if they were to do a bulk-buy, they could probably get a good discount.

The only trick is, with our children's waistlines, maybe we should make sure they keep lugging around 40 lbs of books...

When Bush was president the hospital [Darnall Army Hospital at Fort Hood] had the typical 8 1/2 by 11 inch picture in a plain black frame. Now there is a HUGE poster sized photo framed in gold of Obama with the flag and white house in the background. He is being looked upon by too many people both in and out of the military as royalty. There is no place in America for tyrants as I feel he wants to be.

And so what makes those you quote “right” and what is YOUR plan? You and the R-Wingers ain’t got one! So, you stand on the sidelines of the baseball game and throw balls and bats onto the playing field to try and mess up the game going on.

You had your chance with W for 8 years. What’d you do? You got us into this mess we’re in. Regulationless government does NOT work. Someone has to hold the culprits accountable. You didn’t. You ruled by slogan and “don’t guestion W.”

To put it in the words of my farmer friends when they’re standing in the middle of the corn field with a busted tractor that won’t plow --- “We’re f***ed!”

Who’s gonna fix the problems? Certainly not the R-Wingers. They and you have no plan. You are clueless and --- you’re f***ed too!

Hey Lynn,

Didn't Obama run for President when he became a Senator? Now he is the President and running for his second term! He is the empty suit after all.

Let me ask a question about his inability to produce his Birth Certificate because I may have missed it. He don't have one, or it is impossible to get one? Seems to me, if they are running for office this should be a required document? Just my thought about it.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Lynn,

It is very difficult to listen to Obama because of the radical ideas he is setting forth. With that said, it is also hard to watch him. His use of the teleprompters makes him look like he is watching a tennis match. He has no eye contact with the center just side to side. If you have a DVR, you can rewind and watch him speak in an accelerated mode where his use of the teleprompter(s) is very evident. It is appalling to hear him close his teleprompted speeches with President Reagan's close of "...and God bless the United States of America," because his policies are definitely not in line with the Word of God...i.e. if you don't work, you don't eat...the parable of increasing talents (greed??)...the sanctity of life...etc.

Re: Dallas Morning News opinion 3/27/2009

Such a neat trick to turn "greed" into such a benign American sounding phrase as "the desire to make a profit." If one gets to define their terms, it is easy to mislead someone.

Lynn - those cameras also can reduce road rage - anger at those A/H's who abuse traffic regulations - think about it. John H.

P.S. this about the first time that I've ever really disagreed with you...& thats after 4-5 years of listening to you...mmmn

Lynn,

Glenn B. must be siphonning some of your logic. That $950K revenue camera probably prevented more accidents than it caused & consequently some injuries and possibly one or more deaths - think about it.
Also, the extended delay between red lites ( both red)- those inconsiderate ah's just anticipate & nullify that feature..

Lynn, I a long time listener, and I have to admit you are wrong about the actions of this Dallas policeman. Are we a nation of laws, or make it up as you go along? This policeman stopped a law breaker and had a protocol to follow before the offender could be released. Lets see according to your logic, this policeman should make the judgment well he has a good attitude and is repectful, I just release this offender, it was only a break in at a run down house. Or our own crooks in Washington..its just some old embryos that will be thrown away anyway.

Mr. Woolley, apparently you are a believer of the "greed is good" mantra as espoused by the character, Gordon Gekko, in the 1987 movie, "Wall Street." You say that "Greed -- the desire to make a profit -- is the engine that runs a free-market democracy..." Webster's "College Dictionary" defines greed as "excessive or rapacious desire, esp. for wealth or possessions; avarice; covetousness." So if greed is good, rapacious desire is even better? Free enterprise is one of the cornerstones of our democracy, but Wall Street insiders have just proven that their greed is not good and their idea of free enterprise isn't free. It's just a means to create and keep excessive wealth among a cabal of financial manipulators.
Sally

Wall Street? My dear, you need to take a look at your own government. The corruption at Freddie and Fannie was rampant. May still be. Government forced the sub-prime crisis by forcing banks to make loans to the poor. Now, our greedy little prez is engorging government at your and my expense. If you read my article, you know how I defined greed and stated that it must be tempered with honesty and ethics. Those two things are sadly missing in government.
