Lynn-
When you mention Sen. John Kerry’s name you have to say that he served in Vietnam. (Rush always does.)
Round Rock Ron

Ps- Sen. John Cornyn is to Liberal for me. I would love to have Congressman John Carter replace him.

Ps2- Oh by the way I served in Vietnam also.

Lynn, did you notice that O'reilly has stopped pushing Seals/Osama t shirts? Looks like the publicity we gave to team 6 singled them out for action that would deflate the pride of this nation.

SOL,
For a little over 20 years I have been an adherent of devolutionary/enclave, a democracy contains the seeds of its own destruction, and stuff-like-that.

Henninger’s column in today’s WSJ doesn’t have any new insights, just a buttload of confirmation.

Ahem!

Excerpt from this article:

Former board member Randy Stevenson, also a social conservative, said the idea of challenging Ratliff next year has crossed his mind. Stevenson lives in Tyler, which will be part of the new district Ratliff represents.

“I care about the education system here in Texas. I don't think that my district has been fairly represented,” he said. “I have a real concern with (Ratliff).”

AG: registered lobbyists can't serve on state board of education

AUSTIN — Registered lobbyists are not eligible to serve on the State Board of Education, Attorney General Greg Abbott said Friday in a legal opinion aimed at the qualifications of new member Thomas Ratliff.

Ratliff is a registered lobbyist, whose clients include Microsoft.

Abbott's opinion, however, said his office cannot appropriately determine the question of whether Ratliff lobbies on business related to the board, which would make him ineligible to serve on it.

Ratliff, R-Mount Pleasant, defeated social conservative Don McLeroy in a GOP primary last year, and McLeroy's allies now want the Texas House to impeach Ratliff if he does not resign.

Ratliff plans to seek re-election next year, contending that Abbott's opinion clarifies and supports his standing

“It's not an outright prohibition,” he said of the opinion. “It's only for lobbyists who represent clients that deal with the operation of the board.”

Ratliff said his lobby contracts explicitly stay clear of any duties dealing with board operations — which Travis County district attorneys appeared to approve after reviewing the contracts earlier this year.

Abbott's opinion states: “A registered lobbyist who has been paid to lobby the legislative or executive branch on a matter relating to Board business is ineligible to serve on the Board. The question of whether a person is ineligible...is a fact question that is inappropriate to an attorney general opinion.”

Ratliff expects his critics to continue their attack.

“Don McLeroy was their friend and their compatriot, and they are still mad at me for beating him,” Ratliff said. “They will stop at nothing to try to tear me down or discredit me or get me disqualified.”

Some conservatives want the Texas House to impeach the son of former GOP state Sen. Bill Ratliff.

“Thomas Ratliff can and should be impeached if he chooses not to resign from the SBOE,” conservative blogger Donna Garner wrote Friday after Abbott's ruling.

Garner has been highly critical of Ratliff. She urged legislative candidates to express their position on Ratliff's impeachment before primary elections next March.

“Are they going to support the impeachment petition against Thomas Ratliff and uphold the Rule of Law, or are they going to lack the courage to do the right thing?” she wrote.

The State Board of Education has split over ideology in recent years with six or seven social conservatives forming a united bloc on the 15-member board.

Earlier this week, social conservative board member David Bradley, R-Beaumont, urged supporters in an email to write Abbott and share concerns about “having a fox in our henhouse...Thomas Ratliff has continued to create problems for the conservatives on the SBOE.”

Bradley said he expects the board will ask agency lawyers “if anyone can bring forth a challenge to policy decisions made previously that the member participated in — if indeed ineligible. As a follow-up, what would counsel recommend the board do for future deliberations given the cloud and uncertainty of a member's eligibility?”

Abbott's opinion is “not some massive victory or definitive ruling,” said Kathy Miller, president of the Texas Freedom Network, which monitors the State Board of Education from the opposite perspective of the board's social conservative bloc.

“It was a slap in the face at board members who have been declaring (Ratliff's eligibility) a decided issue since January,” she said.

Ratliff joined the board in January

“It's unbelievable that we have billions of dollars cut from public education and a State Board of Education and Legislature that can't fund textbooks or make decisions on curriculum and board members want to spend their time with petty internal, partisan bickering,” Miller said.

In a statement, board Chairman Barbara Cargill, R-The Woodlands, said, “The attorney general opinion answers many of the questions the State Board submitted. A few issues still require further study.”

Conflict and controversy likely will continue to follow board members through next year's elections when all 15 face re-election under new boundaries because of redistricting.

The following is Robt Ringer's (Looking out for No.1)musings
about Iran.Ringer seem's to be playing fast n loose w/time ,place & circumstance. His rationale is that, since Iran has not much more than a nuclear bomb, that they will fall eventually of their own weight,as did the USSR.He says that Iran's nuclear facs are ..NONE OF OUR BUSINESS--as if there's any comparison between USSR, that was a relatively responsible faction, that was responsive to the idea of mutually -deterred destruction and the childish Islamic ,sucide bomber mentality that seeks solace w/ 72 virgins !!!

Let me soberly point out, to the Ringer-Ron Paul mentality, that last week a cop was shot in the face while idling at an intersection in san Diego,by wastrel who'd already left a suicide letter at home.
Sure, the punk didn't last ...but neither did a very valuable officer & war hero!Has Ringer heard of ElQaeda ..trying to get nuclear--you know, that ElQaeda that has visited our shores..recently!
This is very disappointing wishful thinking on the part of these 2 libertarians(Paul & ringer) who're clearly influenced by their former mentor, Harry Browne
Ringer's reasoning ,to wit:

As to Iran’s being a threat to the United States, I remember when the late Harry Browne responded to a similar concern about the Soviet Union. He explained that he had recently visited the Soviet Union and that it was clear to him that it couldn’t even feed and clothe its own people. He predicted that the Soviet motherland would collapse under its own weight, and he lived long enough to witness his prediction come true.
As Ron Paul put it on Thursday, “Yes they have some militants in Iran, but they are all around the world. Iran can’t reach America, they don’t even have an air force. Iran can’t even make enough gasoline for itself.”
I thought of Harry Browne’s similar comments about the Soviet Union as Paul spoke. Iran, too, will collapse under its own weight. And if its authoritarian leaders ever tried to use a nuclear weapon, I believe it would be Iran, not Israel, that would be wiped off the map.
I realize that war is a helpful tool for obscuring the socialist agenda of the far left in America — for crying out loud, they’ve even invaded Libya! — but we must not allow it to go on. As Ron Paul said, “It’s time to quit this. It’s trillions of dollars we are spending.”

Dear Candy,
I watch your show quite regularly, and I am very disappointed to hear you LIE about polls indicating Bachman and/or Paul do the worst against Obama.
Below are FOUR polls showing Ron Paul does the best of all the candidate against our beloved president Obama.
Not sure if I can trust you, but I will give you a chance to apologize next Sunday and set the record straight before I totally turn you off.
No one is perfect, and as long as it was NOT intentional, you deserve a second chance.

I am copying one of our local talk radio stations (Lynn Woolley) KTEM (Temple TX) as this will be good talk radio material Monday.

Sincerely

Steven Orrange

Hi Lynn

i thought it was disturbing to hear Rush Limbaugh criticize the grass roots movement that got Rand Paul elected to the KY Senate last year.

This is regarding the comments after the debate from Rush and I quote:
"I’m sorry, but this Ron Paul is going to destroy this party. This is nuts on parade. The media loves this guy as nuts on parade. They want the whole Republican Party to be identified with the kookiness of Ron Paul......."

in my opinion, if Ron Paul can cleanse the party of NEO cons, and RINOS, including Limbaugh, I say great. Rush has already admitted to being a water carrier for the Bush administration....(He may have recanted, but i have not heard him)

in the meanwhile, Michael Savage has Ron Paul on as a guest last week, on the very day of the market crash, and introduces Ron Paul as the GREAT Congressman from Texas, along with many other positive remarks. Here is the Savage interview if you have not heard it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5qTR3qV0vtA

There are many factions now in the republican party, and this will be a very interesting 15 months. The media players (like Rush, Ingramm, Beck, Hannity) are all pulling for Romney (who can not win), and then Rick Perry, who claims to be a tea party candidate, however, the Tea party ran against Perry in the last election, and she garnered 20% of the vote and had no money.

excuse the rambling....talk soon
Steve

Lynn,

Why couldn't Michelle Bachman say that she is against gay marriage? I am disappointed that she could not stand by her principles during the David Gregory interview. She looked weak. I would like a Republican who can without shame state their principles. I know she is in campaign mode, but she is not by default going to gain the gay/lesbian vote.

Sincerely,

John

We have to remind the scoffers that we stand and fall on the same Word of God as the homosexual. Heterosexuality, i.e. - the acts & behavior of heterosexuality is only blessed in one singular case: marriage! Further, I'd add monogamous marriage.

Unlike the scoffer who judges incessantly against an ever shifting measure of his own amalgamation, we too judge, but we have an unwavering measure set down centuries ago and to which we have submitted our own lives and behaviors, not just that of others.

HUUUUGE difference, wouldn't you say?

Lynn,

1) Yesterday in my unrestrainable lust for conservative talk radio I went to XM Patriot and there was no programming. They were broadcasting the announcement of when they'd be back on the air so they were paying for the electricity! So of course I thought why shouldn't they put some LOGIC on the air and sell some ad time.

2) If you would post your shows as podcasts w/o commercials I'd listen to most if not all of them.

Think about it -- and be logical about it!

All the best,

SOL,
Today’s WSJ has a very informative column titled College Football Gets Its Act Together. The Aggies have manifested their usual illogical chest pounding and are emitting fantasy vibrations that they have arrived at the summit as Texas’ flagship school. Ha! As much as I don’t like it your Burnt Orange Bullies will not be easily dislodged from that lofty redoubt. We Red Raiders are more objective as we assess such things and, accordingly, our expectations are much more realistic. Rick Perry’s cred could take a bit of a hit since he has exercised his jaw muscles and had his thumb up (in the air, I guess) in front of the cameras.
