Gun control and Second Amendment rights are a proven loser
for Democrats – and that may be why Obama has steered clear in his first
term.
But if Obama is reelected,
he might have more “flexibility” with the gun issue – and especially in the
wake of the Trayvon Martin case.
Remember, Obama once said that people in small towns get bitter and
cling to guns or religion. Mitt
Romney is trying to shore up his credentials after his pronouncement in 1994
that “I don’t line up with the NRA.”
So again, the eventual nominee gives ground on what should be a
slam-dunk for the Republicans. But
nothing is easy with Romney. He IS
now an NRA member, he’s spoken to the group’s annual convention, and gun owners
can certainly trust him on the issue more than Obama. That’s good because the gun control lobby, from New York’s
Mayor Bloomberg to the Brady Center is very energized right now.
