If you’re looking for a solid reason to support Mitt Romney
– he just gave you one.
Romney
said that minorities, especially, are getting a “third world education” in the
United States and that education is the civil rights issue of our time. For some time now, I’ve routinely voted
“no” in school bond issues – not because we don’t need new buildings – but
because I think that schools need to be fixed before we build more of
them. Just days ago, a teacher in
North Carolina instructed a student that he was NOT to offer any criticism of
Barack Obama, and that people had been jailed for disparaging George Bush. The student, much smarter than the
teacher, understood his constitutional rights. How many teachers like this do we have? How many teach climate change,
diversity, and contraception? Fix
our academics first – before we build more schools. Mitt Romney seems to understand this.
