Several racial groups are suing the state over its new Congressional districts. They say the district lines were drawn to prevent minorities from being elected.
It’s interesting to look at the list of the suing agencies – a who’s who of race-based interest groups including the Mexican American Legislature Caucus, the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and even the N-double-A-C-P. These groups are also all liberal – and they’re not happy that Republicans drew the district lines to favor Republicans. This is a political issue – and you can be sure that when Democrats are in power, they draw the lines to favor Democrats. What’s disgusting is that the liberals have to make it a racial issue. But if they don’t, they can’t win – so they charge discrimination under the Voting Rights Act. It’s time to name an outside panel to draw the Congressional boundaries.
