What would it take for Texas to have an immigration law like
those in Georgia and Alabama?
In
those states, the politicians in charge have decided that rule of law matters
more than cheap labor. In Texas,
that’s not where we are. To pass
such a law, and enforce it, we’d need a new governor. Rick Perry is on record that such a law is wrong for Texas. The new governor would need major
campaign donors with a different mindset.
Perry’s billionaire friends, Charles Butt and Bob Perry, made a few
phone calls – and the Sanctuary Cities bill died a slow death. We’d need a new outlook in the business
community. Bill Hammond, head of
the business lobby in Texas, wants the cheap labor that illegal immigration
provides. Finally, we’d need a
changing of the guard in Austin.
Current leadership is not going to provide a tough immigration law. Remember that next time you go to the
polls.
